Lot Essay

Though not of the same distinctive size, a set of eight 19th century wall lights of this model are in the Rothschild collection at Waddesdon Manor and illustrated in G. de Bellaigue, Furniture, Clocks and Gilt Bronzes, vol. II, 1974, p.786, no. 214. Other pairs were sold from the collection of Comte Charles de Rohan-Chabot, Parke-Bernet Galleries, New York, 21 March 1953, lot 341, Sotheby's London, 7 July 1978, lots 69 and 70, and Important French Furniture from a Private Collection; Christie's, New York, 21 May 1996, lot 338.
