Christie's offers masterpieces of English and Continental silver from the late medieval period through the 19th century, as well as important American silver which is sold in New York. Auctions are held throughout the year in Amsterdam, London, New York, Milan and Paris. Silver is also offered in Christie's monthly House Sales in New York, and occasionally is featured in private collections and furniture and decorative arts sales in Amsterdam, London, Paris and New York.
Silver auctions often include Judaica and Objects of Vertu, small personal accessories such as snuff boxes, seals, necessaires, and scent flasks. Typically dating to the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, these items are made in precious materials like gold, enamel, hard stones, and gems.
Christie's holds the world auction record price for a piece of English silver of £1,485,000 for the Maynard sideboard dish (1991). Other world auction records include $534,000 for an American silver tankard by Bartholomew Le Roux of New York, 1710 (January 2002).
