A Legacy Preserved: The Last Treasures of The Avery Collection

Sale Overview
The Avery Collection is quite simply a one-off. A deep, treasure chest of some of the greatest, rarest wines ever bottled. The collection is comprehensive in scope and highly academic for anyone with an inquisitive, wine-loving mind. This is not just a show cellar. Nor a trophy of “unicorns” or priceless 100 point “legends”, it is more intriguing and nuanced than that.
This last offering from The Avery family cellar is more accurately a library, which charts the development of the world of fine wine as we know it today. The Avery Family were passionate, restless innovators, who were well ahead of their time. First Ronald and then John, they looked far and wide in their journey of unearthing and then importing wines as various and important as: Petrus, McWilliams and Penfold’s through to the great Californian wines of Mondavi, Heitz and many, many others.
This final offering from the family cellar, follows on from our memorable auction in 2016, and represents a last opportunity for collectors to delve into the ancient Avery cellars. Collectors can explore a collection the like of which is all-but consigned to history. The wines in this collection cover two centuries of winemaking and were bought or imported on release and stored in the purpose-built, stone cellars until now. Many of these wines, with this provenance will never come to auction again.
