Clementine Kerr, Specialist, Head of Day Sale: “The breadth of interest at this level of the market is reflected by the top ten lots, which span the Italian, Netherlandish, English and French Schools. The sale attracted buyers from 21 countries, including a number of clients who were new to the category. The lots that performed strongest highlight the demand for both arresting and highly decorative images, as illustrated by Lazzari’s pair of trompe l’oeils (lot 224) and A cavalier by the Studio of Honthorst (lot 141), both of which far exceeded their pre-sale estimates.”
