Olga de Amaral : Secrète Alchimie

Sale Overview
Olga de Amaral, a multifaceted artist born in Bogotá in 1932, is a singular individual ‒ precious and secret, someone to be discovered. Since producing her first works in the 1960s, she has never stopped exploring the array of possibilities afforded by weaving and fibre.
Mysterious, mystical, sacred and shifting, gold animates the surface of her weavings and intertwined pieces as it reflects off them. Starting in the 1970s and through the 1980s, her work expanded, colonising space as her compositions were as much painting and sculpture as weaving. Her works create an intimate, nearly physical relationship with the observer. Each piece is unique, attesting to the time spent creating. Each work clamours to be perused, contemplated and even turned over so the secrets of its design can be admired.
Olga de Amaral: Secrète Alchimie will be on view at Christie’s Paris from 22 – 27 September and open for Online browsing 22 September – 31 October.
