Antiquities and Ancient Greek Vases from the Zimmermann Collection

  • Event date 9 April
  • Event location New York

Discover the treasures of the ancient world this April in two live sales: Ancient Greek Vases from the Zimmermann Collection and Antiquities. Ancient Greek Vases from the Zimmermann Collection features the most comprehensive selection of Athenian black- and red-figured pottery to appear at auction in decades. Top lots include an Attic red-figured neck-amphora, attributed to the Nausicaa Painter, formerly in the famed collection at Castle Ashby and an Attic black-figured hydria, attributed to the Group of Vatican 424, once in the Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute Museum of Art. The Antiquities sale contains an array of works from across the ancient Mediterranean, of an equally impressive provenance, including objects from ancient Greek, Roman and Egyptian cultures ranging from the 3rd millennium BC to the 3rd century AD. The auction is led by an impressive Egyptian green schist votive cubit rod for Mery-Ptah, dating to circa 1330–1250 BC. Also presented is a group of ancient and European engraved gems from the collection of Dr. Corinne Bronfman (1947–2022) of Washington, D.C.
