Event date 25 January 2023 -
Event location New York
Coming to Christie’s New York, this January, the centrepiece of Classic Week, Remastered: Old Masters from the Collection of J.E. Safra Selling Without Reserve casts a new light on the significant period of art history from the Dutch Golden Age through the 19th century.
Characteristic of the refined eye of the collector, this selection traverses landscapes by J.M.W. Turner, Luca Carlevarijs and Gaspare Vanvitelli, scenes of daily life by Dutch Golden Age artists including Aert de Gelder, Adriaen van de Velde and Phillips Koninck. The Caravaggists are represented by Pietro Paolini, Angelo Caroselli and Hendrick Ter Bruggen and we have fantastic early northern paintings by Joos van Cleve and Jan van Hemessen. There is a fabulous album of drawing by Jean Baptiste Oudry and 19th century works by Gustave Courbet and Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot. Selling without reserve, the works are united in their accessibility and universal appeal, both in theme and price point.
