MICKEY MANTLE FIRST BASEBALL CONTRACT
Shortly before his entry into the KOM League with the Independence Yankees in June 1949, Mickey Mantle signed a uniform players contract to play in the Ban Johnson League on May 27th, 1949. The contract is signed by Mickey C. Mantle, Mrs. Lovell Mantle and E.C. Mantle (Mantle's father). It contains vital statistics about Mantle and his parents. There is also a signed affidavit of Barney Barnett, the club President. On the first page is a notation in ink "released 6-20-49" which coincides with the time that Mantle went on to the Independence team. This is the first baseball contract signed by the seventeen year old Mickey Mantle. Also included is a note from the Commerce High School principal confirming the birthdate of Mickey Charles Mantle as October 20, 1931.
