A FRENCH GILT-BRASS AND PORCELAIN-MOUNTED STRIKING CARRIAGE CLOCK WITH ALARM

The cannelee case engraved with bands of trailing leaves, with painted porcelain panels to the sides depicting two maidens and a maiden with an amorino respectively, the dial with amorini below the Roman chapter ring with blued steel moon hands, with retailer's signature to the center Henry Capt. Genève, alarm disc below, the silvered lever platform with bimetallic balance, strike/repeat/alarm on gong via two hammers to the backplate stamped DC and 10483 with repeat retailer's signature

Lot Essay

Capt, Henry Daniel, Geneva and Paris. Capt was not a maker of carriage clocks but did retail superior French work under the Capt name. In 1870 there was a shop in the Rue Scribe, and at around this time there was also an outlet at 151 Regent street, London. See also note to lot 10 above.
