Lot Essay

Influenced by the Brcke painters such as Pechstein and Schmidt-Rottluff Otto Beyer could be described an Expressionist of the Second Generation, dispite the fact that he produced his best paintings as early as 1912. Beyer was a member of the "Freie Sezession Berlin" under Max Liebermann, his mentor and like his Brcke friends was considered "entartet" between 1933 and 1945.
