Made in one piece, the broad slightly curved double-edged blade reinforced at the point and with raised medial ridge within the deeply cut fullers on each side at the forte, both sides with pounced Bikaner armoury mark, the straight quillons each chiselled with tigers' heads each issuing from elephants' heads, rising through the twisted grip to the everted makara headed upper arms, the lozenge section terminal with lotus bud finial

Lot Essay

Raja Man Singh of Amber is depicted in a Mughal miniature in the Metropolitan Museum dating from around 1590 wearing a very similar dagger (inv. no.1982.174). A fine similar dagger is also in the Victoria and Albert Museum (I.S.86.1981).
