Lot Essay

Cork was beloved by Eileen Gray for its silence. She used to eat her daily meals at this table, as illustrated in the black and white view. The flexible design of the table meant that it could be used a coffee table or, when turned on its side and the metal surface was flipped up, it became a type of zinc-covered café counter, ideal for serving an apéritif.
