Lot Essay

The drawing of the timber waggon was a subject frequently treated by Sandby when he sketched in the forest at Windsor. The present drawing relates to a more finished watercolour in the Victoria and Albert Museum executed in the 1790s (see L. Herrmann, Paul and Thomas Sandby, exhibition catalogue, Victoria and Albert Museum, London, 1986, no. 27, p. 111).

For a note on the 'F' inscription see previous lot.
