Serial No. 28223, in translucent red finish, bound body with single round cutaway and top with f-holes, mahogany neck, twenty-two fret ebony fingerboard with thumbprint inlays, single Filter 'Tron pickup, single rotary control, switch, metal bridge, Bigsby vibrato tailpiece unit and black pickguard with Gretsch and Chet Atkins lettering; and a black hardshell contour case with blue plush lining and Lee Dickson's handwritten tie-on label E.C. Gretch 6119 S/P.Up 8223 and adhesive paper label similarly inscribed

Eric Clapton said that he "...didn't pursue Gretsch too much..". Although he loved the "..concept, look and design.." he professed that it's not his "...kind of sound..".

The Chet Atkins Tennessean was introduced in 1958.
