Serial No. 755, in sunburst finish, top with f-holes, mahogany neck, nineteen-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays, single pickup, two rotary controls, wooden bridge and metal tailpiece; and a grey hardshell contour case with Lee Dickson's handwritten tie-on label Gibson L48 Early '50s 55 and adhesive paper label similarly inscribed
The ES-125 designation was introduced in 1941. This guitar is very similar to the instrument which was played by B.B.King in circa 1950 when he was photographed playing on WDIA Radio in Memphis. [See illustration]
Eric Clapton remarked that he loves this model of guitar. He bought this instrument in Atlanta and is featured playing it on the promotional video of Motherless Child 1994. (see illustrations)
