Lot Essay

In an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine in 1991, Clapton recalled how difficult it can be when playing on other artists' albums and referred to this guitar and the situation surrounding his contribution to Sambora's album:
"...I got a very sweet, dedicated letter from him [Sambora] and I was deeply touched, my ego was pumped up. And I thought, of course I have to do this". And I never really listened to the song...then Richie came to London with the tape, and I showed up at the studio, and he gave me a gift, a massive twelve-string Taylor guitar with my name on it...it was magnificent...then he put the tape on, and I realised instantly that I was completely out of my depth...the song wasn't what I expected it to be, and I had to sit down and go to the bottom of my socks and pull up whatever I had to make it work...it took hours...it was the kind of thing you would like to go and do in private..."

In a recent interview with Neville Marten for Guitarist, Lee Dickson said "...This Taylor 12-String was a present from Richie Sambora...We've used it on different sessions, so it's been played quite a lot".
