Lot Essay

No other vase of this unusual form and combination of famille rose and monochrome decoration appears to be published. The closest comparison appears to be a vase, also with a Qianlong mark, sold in these rooms, 27 November 1991, lot 430. This example had a teadust-glazed body set between a similarly molded foot and neck molded with elephant-head handles reserved on the famille-rose-decorated mauve ground.
