Title with woodcut architectural border incorporating the Sessa device, sectional title with woodcut border, colophon on verso of final leaf with woodcut device and border, 501 full-page woodcuts of costumes within strapwork borders and 5 full-page views of Venice, woodcut initials and headpieces. (L2 recto with heavy ink erasure affecting one line and the illustration opposite, S1-S5 with small hole at outer margin, 2Z1 verso slightly stained, cut on 3G6 with crude inking-in of facial features, cuts on 3P8 and 3R5 with old paint mark, without final blank.) 17th-century vellum with red morocco lettering-piece, red speckled edges.

Second edition of Vecellio's cabinet of costumes, expanded from the first edition of 1590 with 86 additional cuts, including 20 of American costumes (Peruvian, Mexican, Virginian and Florida Indians). The blocks were cut by Cristoforo Chrieger. Vecellio himself was the nephew and pupil of Titian. Cicognara 1819; Colas 2977; Lipperheide Aa 34; Sabin 98732.
