A collection of photographs and press clippings formerly belonging to Mrs Jeffery, the nurse of Prince Ludwig of Hesse, comprising
i) Christmas postcard, inscribed on the reverse 'For Lu', with the message 'We wish sweet Lu a happy Xmas and a bright New-Year. Many kisses from your loving cousins. Marie, Anastasia.'
ii) Photographic postcard depicting the children of Tsar Nicholas II, Anastasia, Maria, Olga, Tatiana and the Tsarevich, Alexei.
iii) Various informal photographs, depicting amongst others the Tsarevich and his guardian Derevenko, Mrs Jeffery and Prince Ludwig.
iv) A four-page letter from 'G.V. Rotsmann' in Darmstadt, dated February 27 1927, to 'Dearest Nursie', with news of the family, discussing how worried they have been over the rumours that Anastasia is still alive.
With various press clippings, cards and photographs relating to Prince Ludwig of Hesse and his father Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig. (19)

Lot Essay

Prince Ludwig of Hesse was the great grandson of Queen Victoria, his grandmother being Princess Alice, her second daughter. He was first cousins with the children of Tsar Nicholas II, who were executed alongside their parents by the Bolsheviks in 1918.
