1953 FORD F100 PICKUP TRUCK
Identification No. tba
Sea Haze Green with Connolly leather interior
Engine: overhead valve six cylinder, 223ci., approximately 130bhp at 3,900rpm; Gearbox: four speed; Suspension: semi-elliptic leaf springs; Brakes: four wheel drums. Left hand drive.
1953 marked the Golden Anniversary for the Ford Motor Company, and all trucks featured the new Ford crest hood emblem with lightning bolt in addition to the Golden Jubilee horn buttons to commemorate the historical 50th anniversary Fords. The F100 Pickup Trucks were the product of a four year, $30 million investment by Ford that was instantly repaid by an overwhelming response with F100 sales toppling over 100,000.
This exceptional example was purchased from its previous owner in August of 1995 in Napa Valley, California where it was used for close to thirty years at his gentleman's farm. After it was transported back East, the pickup became the subject of a painstaking four year restoration. Hundreds of hours were devoted to careful engineering, creativity and attention to detail in designing a truly remarkable gentrified pickup that would keep the original characteristics of the 50s nostalgia, yet increase its suitability for today's driving.
When the truck's cab and bed were taken off the frame, the pickup's pale yellow paint was evident, as the previous owner had professed to purchasing it this way in the mid 1960s. All paint was removed and the original sheet metal was sandblasted before the truck was painted back to its magnificent original Sea Haze Green. Mechanical work included special modernizations that the owner felt would enhance the roadability of the truck. Items such as a four speed transmission and four barrel carburetor with aluminum intake manifold and a power steering unit were just some of the additions. As an example of how important both driving and original integrity were to the owner, he located an original set of 16 inch wheels that were factory options in 1953 to use on the final restored car. The wheels were then sent to a renowned race shop to be widened in order to accommodate Goodyear 225/75 R16 radial tires.
The present owner, an English car enthusiast, decided that he wanted to have the pickup interior plush with as many fine accoutrements as possible. In excess of $13,000 was spent designing a true showcase example. The bench seat was inspired by the styling of Rolls-Royce, using the finest Connolly leather with bolsters and pleats. The entire cab was soundproofed with insulation before sisal carpeting was custom ordered from a home interior design firm. Original patterns were cut and bound, and Velcro was used in installation for removal during cleaning. Early pickup trucks rarely came with little more than a single piece of cardboard stapled to the roof, so in order to continue with English styling, the headliner was designed in several pieces to accentuate the contours of the vehicle. It is a truly incredible work of craftsmanship.
Since its restoration, the pickup has been driven less than 300 miles and all receipts are available for the buyer. The current owner has stated he would even furnish wooden stake boards with customized logos at the new owner's request. This Ford offers both the charm of 50s styling and the mechanical improvements of the 1990s, and we strongly recommend close inspection to appreciate this remarkable F100.
