A Nimai Do Tosei-Gusoku (Two-Plate Standing Cuirass Armour)
Edo Period (19th Century)
The twenty-six-plate russet iron hoshi bachi helmet with five-stage tehen kanamono (ornamental ring on the top of the helmet), the three iron kiritsuke kozane shikoro (neck guard) mounted with kiku kanamono (chrysanthemum mounts), the fukigaeshi partly overlaid with printed leather, edged with shakudo fukurin decorated and engraved with scrolling foliage, the silvered kuwagata-dai worked with chrysanthemums on small raised dots (nanakoji), the kuwagata in gilt-copper; the black-lacquered iron face mask with gilt teeth, red lips and dark brown moustache, four-lame yodarekake (solid plate throat guard) of kiritsuke kozane (solid plate formed to simulate scales); the kyubi no ita covered with leather printed with a design of Fudo Myoo, the sendan no ita, kohire and o-sode mounted to match; the kusazuri (tasses) in seven sections with lower plates trimmed with bear fur; the whole armour constructed with gold kozane (scales) laced in bright orange, the iyo haidate (thigh armor) in gold lacquer; the shino-gote (sleeves) and shino-suneate (shin guards) of gold-lacquered iron; a pair of black bear fur-covered boots; with an armour box
