After the success of Lost Horizon, Goodbye, Mr. Chips and Random Harvest, Hilton settled into a steady career as a novelist and screenwriter, returning frequently to the theme of life in England between the wars. Though none of his later works achieved the critical success of his early novels, he nonetheless remained a popular writer until his death in 1950. With over 3000 typed pages, comprising 18 drafts of 9 novels, plus related ephemera and manuscripts, most with corrections and revisions in Hilton's hand, the archive includes: Nothing So Strange. (563 pages); Time and Time Again. 3 typed manuscripts, approx. 800 pages. With corrected galley proofs, 100 pages, and corrected page proofs, signed ("James Hilton"), 306 pages; We Are Not Alone. Typed manuscript (here titled "The Little Doctor") with annotations in Hilton's hand. 126 pages; And Now Goodbye (originally titled "Little Boy Lost"). 3 typed manuscripts approx. 800 pages.
