Lot Essay

This photograph was taken prior to the pianist's concert at the Canadian Pavillion during the 1958 World's Fair at Brussels, Belgium. By this time he had established his reputation as one of the most brilliant and exciting pianists of his generation but was to retire from the concert platform in 1964, devoting himself to recording and broadcasting.
