1973 FERRARI 365 GTB/4 DAYTONA
Chassis No. 16775
Yellow with beige/black leather seats
Engine: V-12, four-cam, 4,390cc, 355bhp at 7,500rpm; Gearbox: five- speed manual integral with final drive; Suspension: all independent with double wishbones, coil springs; Brakes: four wheel disc. Left hand drive.
The new 365 GTB/4 was launched at the 1968 Paris Salon. Almost immediately the motoring press adopted the name Daytona for the new model in honor of Ferrari's outright victory in the famous American twenty-four hour race. This road car was to become the last of the great front-engined Berlinettas and was immediately highly desirable as a collector's car, even before production finished. The V12 engine developed 355bhp at 7,500rpm and with a top speed in excess of 180mph, it made the Daytona the fastest production car in the world, a statistic that would remain true during the whole of its production life. Styling was by Pininfarina, as usual, and even when standing still, the car suggested that it was capable of great speed. The flexibility of the engine allowed for both gentle driving and long distance touring, the Daytona being capable of covering huge distances effortlessly and quickly.
This February 1973 car was first owned by Mr. Walter Luftman from Rye, NY and was then sold to Mr. Stephen Cox of Edgewater, NY in April 1977. A brief change of ownership occured in 1977 when the car passed to an owner in Saddlebrook, NJ. Then in 1978 Virgil Millett acquired the car. The service book is stamped up to 3,000 miles, the curent mileage showing 8,467 miles. Upon inspection the yellow paintwork is showing some age with some cracking/crazing evident in places. The engine bay is original and clean. The interior is described as being in good condition, somewhat older now but very usable. The Daytona has air conditioning, a Blaupunkt radio with stalk control, cassette player and microphone. The car has 5 spoke Chromodora wheels and a spare wheel, although during a recent inspection no tools were evident. These may be available by the time of sale and prospective buyers should enquire at the time of auction. Used by Mr. Millett as an occasional driver, the Daytona appears to be a highly original example of its type.
