Signed "Alvin" c.r. Acrylics and colored pencils on board 40 x 24 in.

This final art for One-Sheet for the theatrical re-release is a re-interpretation of the original 1982 campaign art, also produced by the artist.

In order to heighten anticipation and suspense for the initial release of the film, it was decided not to reveal the E.T. character in the promotion and marketing of the movie. Consequently, Alvin's first artwork, for the advance or "teaser" One-Sheet, focused on a dramatic scene depicting the landing of the mother ship. As he reflected on E.T.'s propensity to "reach out and touch someone" Alvin was struck by the remarkable similarity to the famous creation scene on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, which became the genesis for Alvin's now-famous art for the One-Sheet. In addition to receiving The Hollywood Reporter Key Art Awards' first place for key art, Alvin's E.T. was the only movie art ever to be honored with the Saturn Award from The Academy Of Science Fiction, Horror and Fantasy Films.

Since the "fingers-touching" art for the original release became a universally recognizable icon, Alvin thought it important to maintain conceptual continuity in the design of the art for the re-release. And, since E.T. had reached stardom, Alvin's interpretation of the forms as constellations in the firmament was brilliantly appropriate.

Since its initial release in 1982, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial has become the 6th top grossing motion picture in history, accumulating over $700 million in box office gross worldwide.

Movie starred: Dee Wallace, Henry Thomas, Peter Coyote, Robert MacNaughton, Drew Barrymore, K.C. Martel. Directed by Steven Spielberg. Winner of three Academy Awards (Best Visual Effects, Music, and Sound).
