Lot Essay

This gouache is a study for one of the lithographs which appeared in the album "La Ville". Léger worked on this album during the last three years of his life, but was not able to complete it according to his original plan. The thirty works which he was able to finish, were published as original color lithographs by Tériade in 1958.
