A RARE EARLY .44 COLT NO. 2 RING LEVER RIFLE, SERIAL NO. 17 ABOUT 1838
The octagonal barrel marked Patent Arms M'g. Co. Paterson, N.J.-Colt's Pt. set with copper fore-sight and adjustable rear sight with two scallops cut at either side of barrel at breech, eight-shot square cylinder, varnished walnut stock with cheekpiece and crescent iron butt plate. Parts marked 17 throughout.
32¼ inch barrel
Even brown patina to barrel, grey patina to cylinder and frame. Replacement sights, stock repaired with screw at wrist, and bearing small chip at heel. Mechanically sound.
Some early No. 2 ring levers were not equipped with loading levers, this one is not made with the capping channel on recoil shield. 500 No. 2 or Second Model Ring Lever rifles were made 1838-1841.
