Lot Essay

The style, and particularly the size, of this gorget is significantly different from the standard pattern in use by the British Army in the period 1810-14. It may be one made for an American Indian 'Gorget Captain' recruited by the British for local service during the War of 1812 (see also notes on the previous Lot)
