This plate belonged to Captain W.R.B. Chamberlain, who served in the Kaffir War of 1877-78, during which he was wounded. He was with his regiment during the Zulu War, but being unfit for service in the field as a result of his injuries, he was appointed Camp Commandant at Fort Napier, Pietermaritzburg, and consequently missed the battles of Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift. His South Africa medal is offered as Lot 201 in this sale
