Lot Essay

The published Naval General Service Medal rolls confirm Edward Bryant as a Midshipman aboard the Confiance for the action of 14.1.1809, one of just eight recipients of this clasp recorded on the Admiralty roll.

For the taking of Cayenne in French Guiana by a force of Tars from the Confiance and accompanying Portuguese troops, the whole under the command of Captain James Lucas Yeo, R.N.

N.B. The slightly 'off centre' naming and lack of rank on the above award would seem to confirm its status as a duplicate issue (ADM 171/2/122 refers).
