1932 CADILLAC V-12 MODEL 370B SEVEN PASSENGER LIMOUSINE

In a successful attempt to establish itself as one of America's leading luxury cars, Cadillac surprised the world in January 1930 with the introduction of its superb V-16 engine. As beautifully finished as it was soundly engineered, the sixteen cylinder powerplant and chassis provided the platform for numerous custom coachbuilders of the time to apply their craft, not the least of which was Cadillac's own in-house Fleetwood Body Company. Filling the price gap between the V-16s and the V-8s in the Cadillac model line was a relatively simple process of removing four cylinders from the sixteen and offering a V-12 series. In late 1930 the Series 370/370A cars were introduced as slightly lower priced alternatives to the mighty V-16. This proved to be a sound strategy as the twelves outsold the sixteens during their first year by nearly 2,500 cars!
Among Cadillac connoisseurs the 1932 cars are considered the apogee of the marque's styling during the Classic era. Grilles became rounded and elongated, fender lines flowed gracefully from front to back, body profiles were noticeably lowered, while lamps and trim became more streamlined. In all, the 1932 cars are not only an aesthetic triumph, but also an important design bridge between the earlier, upright styling of the cars and Cadillac's first steps into streamlining in 1933.
The Cadillac V-12 on offer here carries an older restoration that is still in quite presentable condition for show or touring activities. The rear passenger compartment exhibits some wear and is equipped with a divider window to the chauffeur's area, folding jump seats for additional passengers and interior blinds for increased privacy. The dashboard carries correct factory gauges. Fitted accessories include Trippe driving lights and modern directional signals. Dual spare tires with factory-correct covers and mirrors are mounted in the front fenders and the car rides on factory accessory stainless steel wire wheels, which lend a sporting touch to this formal body style. A correct Cadillac Heron radiator mascot complements the graceful grille.
