Lot Essay

The cutting on the neck of this bottle is very closely related to that of a bottle sold in these Rooms 11 April 2000, lot 287. Both relate to that on the neck of a bottle excavated from the wreck of the Serçe Limani (Jenkins, Marilyn: "Islamic Glass, a Brief History", Metropolitan Museum of Art Bulletin, vol.XLIV, no.2, Fall 1986, no.30), thus supporting a Fatimid attribution.
