A George III oak longcase clock, late 18th century
The case with galleried cresting to a hood with swan neck pediment with carved rosette caps, centred by a heart-shaped mount, with outset fluted columns to the front, flanking a moulded octagonal door frame, the trunk with wavy top and flanked by fluted three quarter length pilasters, above plinth with raised quatreform panel and chamfered angles, with stepped base and later feet, the unusual 14in. octagonal white dial with subsidiary rings (rubbed) for seconds and date, signed Hugh Knight STONE (rubbed), with odd black painted hands, pinned directly to the four pillar rack striking movement -- 83in. (211cm.) high
