Lot Essay

Henry Brabazon Urmston served in the Bengal Army 1847-1874. He held various positions including Assistant Commissioner in the Punjab with special duty in Kashmir during 1857, and Deputy Commissioner in Peshawar, Bannu, Sialkot, Amritsar and Rawalpindi. The present watercolours catalogue Urmston's movements through India, and extensive inscriptions give fascinating details of the layout of the various hill stations.
Two figure drawings by Urmston are held in the India Office Library (see M. Archer, British Drawings in the India Office Library, London, 1969, vol. II, p. 348).
