Lot Essay

The work is probably painted between 1926-1930, during the artist's travels in North Africa. The abundant sunlight and exuberant colours of the African landscape offer a much inspired experience to the painter-traveller who recorded the robust figures of the African women under the balzing sunlight, with his sitters right before him.
