ALAN HUNT Alan Hunt has been drawing wildlife since childhood. He studied at Middlesborough Art College but left after a year following a disagreement with the teaching of abstract art. He moved to Leeds Polytechnic and then Bristol University to study Zoology. This combination of scientific and artistic training and skills lead Hunt to label himself 'the Zoologist who paints wildlife'. Hunt has worked with animals in the wild and in captivity, in parks, zoos and reserves. He joined a team that set up the Abuku Game Reserve in the Gambia in 1972. In 1977 he turned to wildlife painting full time and since then has acquired an international reputation. A devoted conservationist, Hunt is constantly seeking new ways to help environmental groups raise funds. He concentrates now solely on endangered species. "If my son doesn't get to see half the wildlife in his lifetime that I've seen, I'll feel very guilty. Rather than become famous as a painter, I would like to be remembered as someone who tried to make people aware of the need to protect the environment and the planet"
