An Antique Carved Amethyst Bust of Ares, God Of War
The armoured bust of carved amethyst to a gilt bronze strapwork and diamond collet base, on rectangular bloodstone plinth, each side with portrait cameo including Menelaus in hardstone, Achilles in labradorite and two female busts, each cameo framed in green pastes with chased foliate mounts above and below, the word 'ARTE' is inscribed in Greek letters on the back of the bust,(helmet is slightly chipped),circa 1890, 18.0 cm. high
