The table and its decoration are based on the Eglantine Table in the High Great Chamber of Hardwick Hall, Derbyshire. The central board of the top is inlaid within a cartouche supported by two stags with the motto The redolent smele of Aeglantyne We stagges exault to the deveyne. At Hardwick, the Hardwick coat of arms is supported by two stags and a stag with a collar of wild roses, or eglantines, a symbol of chastity, was the Hardwick family crest

The absence of a maker's mark or stamp is unusual for an item of furniture of this quality.
