unsigned, the marble base inscribed Palermo 1842 and incised with a dial the hair lines picked out in red and black, with pin gnomon, plummet and compass, the cannon with cleaning rod, the two arcs with calendar scales, supporting the 21/8in. (5.3cm.) diameter magnifier, the base engraved in red Guis la Lumia on the forward edge -- 7¾in. (19.7cm.) diameter
