The case with concave-moulded ebony skirt to the plinth with ebony line inlaid rectangular panel, rectangular trunk door with key-hole boxwood inlaid panels within an ebony line-inlaid rectangular frame with breakarch top, similarly inlaid sides, the hood with brass-mounted pilasters supporting the caddy top with pierced wood sound frets and later finials, the dial signed Fromanteel & Clarke within a crowned foliate cartouche supported by wing cherubs above the brass Roman and Arabic dial with half-hour markers, later black painted hands, the matted centre with ringed winding holes, subsidiary seconds ring and calendar aperture, crown-and-putti spandrels interrupting the foliate engraved border, the substantial three-train five ringed pillar movement with anchor escapement and chiming on eight bells with hour strike on a further later bell via inside countwheel
