Lot Essay

Another version of this drawing, without the wash, is in a private collection, Munich (B. Langer, Carlo Carlone, Landschut, 1990, no. 26). The drawings are possibly related to ceilings Carlone painted in 1726 in the Palazzo Gallio in Como, or four years later in Heimsheim for Wilhelm von Grävenitz.
