SIGNED BY THE PRESIDENT ON HIS 62ND BIRTHDAY, 10 DAYS AFTER HIS INAUGURATION FOR HIS FOURTH TERM

A portrait of the gray-haired President in winter naval cape symbolically set against a clouded horizon with a small section of blue sky visible over his right shoulder. SIGNED in ink below the image: "Franklin D. Roosevelt Jan 30 1944."

This rare print after Shoumatoff's fine portrait was inscribed for presentation only to the closest family members and the few members of the Cuff Links Club. When the President viewed Shoumatoff's finished portrait, he reportedly commented, "Well, we'll call this one 'Signing the Atlantic Charter'", referring to the momentous pre-war conference with Churchill and his aides which culminated in the Atlantic Charter, signed 14 August 1941.
