Lot Essay

The posthumous Testoon of Henry VIII is one of the rarest coins in the Shilling series and Carlyon-Britton's ticket reads 'only 3 known'. Jacob records no coin struck from posthumous dies on both sides, one posthumous/third coinage mule (this coin) and two third coinage/posthumous mules, one in the British Museum, the other in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge.
