In the Quarter-final match against Argentina, played on 23rd July before 90,584 spectators, England defeated Argentina 1-0 and in the Semi-final against Portugal, played on 26th July before 94,493 spectators, England defeated Portugal 2-1. This was the first goal that Banks had conceded in the tournament. In the final against West Germany, played on 30th July 1966 before 96,624 spectators, England defeated West Germany 4-2.
