AN ABBASID TIN GLAZED POTTERY BOWL
Samarra, Mesopotamia, 9th Century
Of rounded form with everted rim on short foot, the pale grey interior painted in cobalt-blue with a six-pointed star motif, three of the arms with dotted outlines and terminating in crescents, the interior of the crescents filled with pale green glaze tinged at the edges with manganese, the alternate arms hatched and terminating in small green dots, a similar slightly larger dot in the centre, otherwise plain, repaired clean breaks with very slight chipping along breaks
