A Victorian Officer's Dirk of The Black Watch
The notch-back blade by WILKINSON, PALL MALL, etched on one side with Thistle decoration, VR cypher within the Garter, regimental title and St. Andrew within an oval inscribed with the motto of the Thistle, the other side bearing the Sphinx and thirteen scrolls inscribed with battle-honours to ASHANTEE; carved and studded bog-oak grip with gilt mounts and pommel fitted with foiled glass finial, gilt mounted scabbard, the locket mounted with St. Andrew between Thistle sprays above 42 in white metal, other mounts with Thistle ornaments; small knife and fork with grips matching those of the dirk (the fork complete but clip-mechanism unserviceable, the knife lacking its blade and securing-clip)
