Lot Essay

The son of the arctic explorer and adventurer, Captain Robert Falcon Scott (Scott of the Antarctic), Sir Peter Scott was a painter, illustrator and naturalist who travelled extensively and worked primarily in oils. He studied biology at Cambridge but left after a vacation to pursue a career as an artist, attending the Munich State Academy and the Royal Academy, London. He founded the Severn Wildfowl Trust at Slimbridge and played a key role in setting up the World Wildlife Fund, even painting the panda that became its logo.
