Lot Essay

Jameson was brought up in New Zealand and moved to London at the age of twenty, studying at Lambeth, Kensington and the Royal Academy Schools. His work is stylistically close to that of William Strang, R.A. (1859-1921), whose drawings were influenced by the portrait drawings of Hans Holbein at Windsor Castle. He worked in the medium of both oil and watercolour.
