Registration No. C194 BYW
Chassis No. SCFCV8/V8FTR 12486
Engine No. V/580/2486/V

Engine: 7,000cc, twin overhead camshafts, 500 bhp at c.3800rpm (see text); Gearbox: five speed manual; Suspension: front, unequal-length wishbones with coil springs and co-axial dampers, anti-roll bar, rear, de Dion axle, radius arms coil springs; Brakes: servo-assisted, four wheel Girling ventilated discs. Right hand drive.
As recorded in the description for Lot 3, the Vantage had debuted in 1977. With its increased performance of some 40 percent over the standard V8 model, and excellent handling it was welcomed with huge praise from the press, and set a precedent as the ultimate high speed, luxury conveyance and true four seater.
Updates to the Vantage were initially relatively limited and came in line with those on the standard V8 model. The first main change, was in keeping with the fourth series V8 being principally a cosmetic development in incorporating the boot spoiler as part of the bodywork. But mechanically, the model remained the same, only with slightly increased torque, until 1986. The car on offer is a late, 1985 Vantage.
This Aston was ordered new by Elton John from the Sloane Street Aston Martin Showroom and first registered in August 1985. At the time of purchase the factory note the only options to have been two detachable head rests, but confirm the original colour scheme as the present, Royal Cherry, with magnolia upholstery piped to match the bodywork.
Servicing and maintenance has been conducted under the supervision of Weybridge Automobiles, however due to the close proximity of their business to two main marque specialists, R.S. Williams and H.W.M., both have been responsible for this work on occasions. The most significant work being a complete revision package of the engine and drivetrain by RS Williams to their uprated 7 litre specification at a cost of around £25,000, which was carried out in 1992 at 8,390 miles.
It is fitted with BBS wheels, a Sony Stereo, and the mileage to date of inspection was approximately 10,000, which it is understood to have been accounted for usually by trips to see Watford Football club play etc.
With its attractive, subtle livery and superb performance, this exceptional Aston Martin offers the pinnacle of high speed touring.
Aston Martins have a special place in Sir Elton John's heart, the marque being his first entry in to collecting. This car was the replacement for his earlier Vantage [Lot 17].
John Newman, his fleet manager, said that Elton mainly used this car for going to matches, he'll jump in a quick car like this to go to the football. 'You put your foot down on that and you know you're in control of it.' Newman loves the distinctive sound of the Aston Martins, commenting that this car 'has a real Vroom.'
