An unusual [?]19th-Century wood and ivory Chinese Zodiac compass,
unsigned, the upper inlaid ivory disc with central compass with green and red-painted brass needle and glazed cover, the surround engraved with two tiers of Chinese characters and pictoral representations of the animals of the Chinese years, the underside with inlaid ivory plaque depicting a man carrying two bundles of sticks in a typical Chinese landscape, with suspension loop -- 2 3/8in. (6cm.) diameter
